We prepare children for First Confession and First Holy Communion beginning in the first grade. The children are taught the basic prayers and are given the foundation of their faith.
In second grade the children review what they have learned the previous year and begin a more intensive program to prepare them to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also called Penance or Confession, is the way God dispenses His loving mercy to the Catholic faithful. Being reconciled with God opens us to receive the Holy Eucharist, which, as the Catechism calls it, is the “source and summit” of the Christian faith.
First Confession usually takes place in Lent. Once the Sacrament of Reconciliation has been received, we begin preparation for First Communion. Traditionally, First Communion is held on a Saturday in May. The children are also involved in the May Crowning for Mary.
Children are expected to attend Mass on all Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. Children are expected to attend all classes in the school year.
