Stations of the Cross Activities
Build Your Own Stations
For your teenager you can have them build their own stations of the cross. They can find different objects that represent each station or draw some of the stations. No phones to use the internet! To make it more fun you can get together with friends and make it a group activity. If you want to make it a little competitive you can split into teams (adults can join too) and see which team can finish first. Once everyone finishes then you can all pray at each station together.
Egg Carton Activity
This is a fun activity that will help your children learn the different stations. This activity can be done in different ways so children of all ages can have fun. For this activity you will be making each Easter Egg a different Station of the Cross. Inside each egg will be a different symbol for that station. There is a list of some items that can be used but feel free to make some of your own. You will also have pictures of each station so you can match them to the eggs or your child can. My favorite part of this activity is it can be used as a countdown to Easter. You can open an egg each day as a family and go over that station and say a prayer.
If you have a younger child who is still learning the Stations you can open the eggs with them and explain each Station. For older children that may already know the Stations or are more familiar with them they could try to match the egg to the right Station. You can also start off with a little Easter Egg hunt and hide them around the house.
Supplies for Egg Carton Activity:
● 18 egg carton (somewhere to place the eggs)
● 14 purple easter eggs and 1 yellow (You can number the purple eggs 1-14 if you want)
● Pictures of the Stations of the Cross (you can write the stations on the back of the pictures if you want)
● Station 1: piece of string
● Station 2: a cross (can make from popsicle sticks or pipe cleaners)
● Station 3: Band Aid #1 (since the band aids represent Jesus falling you will need to number each of them)
● Station 4: Miraculous Metal, Rosary, or picture of Mary
● Station 5: Paper hand (print picture or trace child’s hand if they want to help set up)
● Station 6: Piece of fabric
● Station 7: Band Aid #2
● Station 8: Tissue (to dry tears)
● Station 9: Band aid #3
● Station 10: Small piece of felt or fabric with tie around it
● Station 11: Nail (or picture/toy nail from tool kit)
● Station 12: Small plastic crucifix (or picture of crucifix)
● Station 13: Picture of Michaelangelo’s Pieta
● Station 14: Rock
● Leave egg #15 (yellow) empty. This represents the resurrection.
You can also combine Stations 3, 7, and 9 together and do a dozen eggs if you aren’t able to do all 15 eggs. If you don’t have enough purple eggs you can always mix up the colors. We are just using purple eggs since it is the season of Lent.
