Fr. Ian was born in Dundee, NY in 1981. When he was 18 months old, his father enlisted in the United States Army, and consequently the VanHeusen family moved to a variety of locations. Fr. Ian has spent about half his life in the Southern States (Georgia, Kentucky, and North Carolina) and half in Northern States (New York and Pennsylvania) with Panama and Germany thrown into the mix. He has one brother and one sister, Eric and Teresa, and his parents currently live in Fayetteville, NC.
Before entering seminary, Fr. Ian attended Fayetteville State University to complete a degree in English Education and he taught for two years in Fayetteville, NC. He has a great love for poetry and art, both of which he has been blessed to study. In addition, he is a great enthusiast of soccer and enjoys playing in his free time.
Fr. Ian attended St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia, PA. In his time at seminary, he concentrated on the connection between moral and spiritual theology, in particular the ways that prayer and meditation lead to concrete Christian living. He blogs regularly on prayer and meditation at www.ianvanheusen.com. Fr. Ian also has both Facebook and Twitter accounts, and he looks forward to connecting with parishioners through social media.
